Dentures

Dentures or false teeth are custom-made replacements for missing teeth and can be taken out and put back into your mouth. They help to restore your smile if you’ve lost all or some of your natural teeth due to gum disease, tooth decay or injury. False teeth not only improve the appearance of your smile but also keep your mouth healthy and functioning correctly.

  • Enhance your smile and facial appearance
  • improve your ability to eat and speak, and boost your self-esteem
  • Supports your facial muscles and prevent them from sagging

Getting dentures typically involves several appointments over a few weeks. First, impressions or molds of your jaw are made along with measurements of how your jaws relate to one another. Next, models in the exact shape and position of the denture are created for you to try on. The final denture is then cast, and adjustments are made as necessary.

Proper care can extend the life of your false teeth. This includes daily brushing to remove food deposits and plaque, soaking them overnight in a denture cleaning solution, and handling them carefully to avoid dropping them. Regular dental checkups are also crucial to check the fit of your dentures and to examine your oral health.

Denture FAQs

Dentures are removable dental appliances that replace missing teeth and the surrounding gum tissue. They’re used when you’ve lost some or all of your natural teeth—whether due to decay, injury, or other dental conditions. At Layton Dentistry, we offer dentures to restore your ability to chew, speak clearly, and smile confidently.

We can offer several options depending on your dental condition and needs:

  • Full dentures (for replacing all teeth in an upper or lower arch)
  • Partial dentures (when some natural teeth remain)
  • Immediate or same-day dentures (for extraction patients who want replacement right away)
Our team will help you choose the best solution based on your oral health, budget, and smile goals.

The typical process includes:

  • A consultation and oral exam to assess your remaining teeth, gum health, and jawbone condition.
  • If needed, extractions of any non-restorable teeth.
  • Impressions and measurements so the dentures can be custom-made for your mouth.
  • A fitting appointment where the dentures are placed and adjusted for comfort and function.
  • Follow-up visits to fine-tune the fit, ensure you’re comfortable chewing and speaking, and address any sore spots.

After getting dentures, it’s important to:

  • Remove them nightly to clean and allow your gums to rest.
  • Brush and rinse the dentures daily with a soft denture brush and mild cleaner (avoid hot water which can warp them).
  • Continue to care for your gums and any remaining teeth by brushing, flossing, and visiting Layton Dentistry for check-ups.
  • Expect some adjustment time: chewing may feel different at first, and you may need to avoid very tough or sticky foods for a little while.

With good care, dentures can serve you well for many years—but they aren’t permanently “set-and-forget.” Because bone and gum ridges naturally change shape over time (especially after extractions), your dentures may require relines, adjustments, or even replacement eventually. If your dentures begin to feel loose, cause sore spots, affect your ability to chew or speak, or make your gums look sunken, it’s best to schedule an adjustment at Layton Dentistry. Routine checkups help ensure your dentures continue to fit well and support your oral health.
